Millennium Park

Danville, Kentucky | Master Plan 1998 | Phase I 2000 | Phase II Completed 2007

For 15 years, the residents and leadership of Danville and Boyle County, Kentucky, have envisioned creating a recreational area to serve for athletics, nature preservation, entertainment and aquatics. In 1998, Brandstetter Carroll Inc. was commissioned to complete a master plan for 135 acres to satisfy this recreational need. The plan called for a phased implementation strategy, with Phase I beginning in 2000. As a result, local officials labeled the park, "Millennium Park."

Youth softball and baseball facilities were designed and built to include space for central restrooms, concession areas, and press boxes, all of which were inspired by architectural elements from a nearby historic train depot. Millennium Park also features seven soccer fields, a skate park, and game courts for the athletically inspired user. Other offerings include a serene fish pond, picnic areas, playgrounds, and extensive walking trails encompassing the park. To date, the park has undergone six phases as a result of federal, state, and local government contribution and includes the previously envisioned sports, recreation, and nature areas. Future phases will include a multi-use recreational center, amphitheatre and aquatic facility.
