Don Umerley Civic Center AdditionRocky River, Ohio | 2007 Ohio Parks and Recreation Association’s Outstanding Facility Award Recipient In 2005, Brandstetter Carroll Inc. was contracted to provide professional services for the addition of an indoor aquatic center, weight training area, and cardiovascular room to the recently constructed Don Umerley Civic Center. The architectural design team at Brandstetter Carroll Inc. paid special attention to the materials, finishes, and construction of the Civic Center while incorporating the City’s desired program areas to the new space. When site planning began, it was discovered that a 72” sewer line had to be relocated. Although the site and sewer improvements used 10% of the $8 million budget, Brandstetter Carroll Inc. was able to provide 7,000 additional square feet to the initial design of 36,000 square feet, for a total design of 43,000 square feet, all while remaining within budget. The addition includes an elevated running track, aerobic and exercise rooms, and expansive cardiovascular workout area overlooking the indoor natatorium. The natatorium is complete with lazy river, spiral slide, lap pool, spray features, and therapeutic pool. The addition was awarded the 2007 Ohio Parks and Recreation Association’s Outstanding Facility Award for projects totaling between $5,000,001 and 10,000,000. |
