Camp Whispering Cedars
Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas is implementing Phase II of development at the CWC STEM Center to transform a well-used traditional camping environment into a modern facility that will support and enrich programming experience. One of several new at renovated elements at the site, this green facility will provide flexible programming spaces for activities related to the sciences, local environmental explorations, and a teaching kitchen. The three program spaces are designed for flexible furnishings configurations and are oriented in the structure to support each other or operate independently. A key design feature is the extensive attention to maximize daylight harvesting with windows on all available exterior walls and interior borrowed lites and daylight collecting tubular skylights. Other features include a vegetated roof, photovoltaic solar panels, rainwater harvesting, operable windows for ventilation, LED lighting and water saving plumbing fixtures. This facility re-purposes a previously built site that offers close access to existing drives and basic utilities.
