Constructed in 1998, the Northside YMCA required updates to better serve the evolving wellness needs of the surrounding community. The project modernized and expanded the existing wellness center, including renovations to the locker rooms, the creation of a new multipurpose room, and the development of dedicated boys’ and girls’ locker rooms.
The original lobby was oversized for the scale of the facility and included large areas of non-programmable space, with the welcome desk positioned remotely from the main entrance. The design solution repurposed a portion of the lobby to accommodate the new boys’ and girls’ locker rooms while relocating the desk closer to the front door. This new location functions as a central control point, providing clear visibility to the primary circulation corridors. A new multipurpose room was also added to the rear of the building, further enhancing program flexibility.
