Mayfield Fire Station No. 1

Mayfield, KY

Budget

9 million

Size

18,123 s.q. ft

Scope

On December 10, 2021, an EF4 tornado tore through Mayfield and left the city without a single public building standing. Brandstetter Carroll Inc. is working with the City to develop new facilities to replace those lost.
The new central fire station brings fire and EMS together under one roof. Four drive-through bays keep apparatus moving without backing maneuvers, and immediately off the bays a dedicated sequence of gear storage, decontamination, and laundry keeps contaminated turnout gear out of the spaces where crews live and rest.
The two-story facility is organized around the reality of long shifts: private bedrooms with lockers, a dining room and dayroom, a fitness room, and offices.
A training room and training tower let personnel drill and maintain certifications on site rather than traveling to do it.
And because Mayfield understands better than most what severe weather can do, the station includes a hardened area where personnel can shelter during weather events.
